Century 3 Mall Pittsburgh – Mostly Dead.

This mall was so super cool back in the 80s. It was BOOMING.
It was the 3rd largest mall in the WORLD in the beginning!
Now, not so much.
It was REALLY weird to see this. I hadn’t been there in probably 35 years or so. The road leading to the parking area was full of potholes and almost impossible to navigate. I made a joke saying “I bet you there isn’t a Sephora in this JC Penney! Nope, not a chance. It was so rundown and the ladies room smelled like a public pool bathroom in 1978 if that makes any sense to you (it does to me!). There were maybe 3 stores including a Chinese Massage place. At least there are happy times (endings) still being had in here.
This wasn’t the mall I went to regularly because it was in a different area of the city. “My Mall” was Monroeville Mall back then.
I still don’t understand why people in Pittsburgh rarely venture out of their area, or maybe that is just my experience so far? My mom won’t go to different parts of the city. She talks like those areas are REALLY far away and strange.
I don’t know. I’ll go anywhere!
Here are my photos and be sure to scroll down and see some history and photos of more popular times if you’re curious.
